Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child with her family in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started out as an TV reporter and radio reporter within Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. From 1981 onwards she began to report on the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for the congressional section. She was named the Chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell played both presenter and a panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was the former chairman for Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including arm control, tax reform for the budget and the Iran-contra scandal. She also visited extensively with the president Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
